Congratulations also to Rotary…again. Rotary have a very strong presence in our community and undertake a range of activities that benefit our City. For three days this week they are conducting the RYDA program which sees the majority of Year 11 students in Dubbo participate in driver awareness. More than a dozen Rotarians participate each day to try and make Dubbo’s roads safer.
Speaking of our roads, keep an eye out for a couple of impressive looking trucks on the highways. As a direct result of a conversation I had with one trucking company in Dubbo, we now have advertising space provided free-of-charge by Rod Pilon Transport, Thompson Brothers Transport and Robert Holmes Transport. These trailers will travel from Dubbo to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane helping to spread the word about Dubbo. Thank you to the generous support of those companies who were all very proud to be part of such a campaign.
It was a pleasure to welcome the Honourable Pru Goward (Minister for Family and Community Services) to Dubbo last week, who was very keen to spend some time at Apollo Estate. Our local member, Troy Grant and myself spent time with the Minister at Apollo House and inspecting parts of the Estate. As an area of concern for many Dubbo residents, it is comforting to know that our State Government is treating the Estate with the gravitas it deserves as we all try to work towards a solution.
If you want to comment on a possible market day style event in Talbragar Street, Councillor Mutton has organised a meeting at the Library starting at 5.40pm on Wednesday evening. I would encourage all Talbragar Street businesses (and in fact all CBD businesses) to attend and have some input into the excellent concept.
Don’t forget nominations for the Senior Citizen of the Year close tomorrow. If you know of someone aged 55 or more who makes a significant contribution to Dubbo, take the time to fill in the form. Forms are available from Council or on our Web site.
